2025 Guild Challenge
Denim Upcycling with two randomly drawn colors
Participants will create a throw or twin-size quilt that emphasizes upcycled denim, which should cover 40-50% of the top, or they can choose to create a useful bag for a school age child.
Quilt Size - Minimum 50"x60", Maximum 59"x85".
Palette & Fabric - Color palette is denim with two randomly drawn crayon colors. These two colors should cover at least 25% of the top. Adding more colors is allowed.
Quilting - Use a contemporary approach to quilting however it does not need to be straight line quilting.
Due date - Custer Piecemakers 2025 Quilt Show.
Goal - Participants are encouraged to donate their creation to the Children's Home Society of South Dakota. Please prewash quilts prior to donation.
Tips - 1/2 inch seam allowance is recommended for denim quilts. Denim can be heavy, so a lightweight quilting cotton is suggested for backing.
Getting help - Bring your project to the guilt guild open sew day and ask for tips/guidance. Typically the guild sews on the first Monday & Tuesday of the month.
Participants can join the challenge by donating $5 and drawing your random crayon colors at a guild meeting or at the Quilted Buffalo quilt shop in Custer.
